Prerequisites to Configure the Symantec Endpoint Security Cloud Collector

Before you configure the Symantec Endpoint Security Cloud Collector, complete the following prerequisites:

  • Create a client application.

For the cloud collector to connect and access your environment's data, you can create an application. A client application is required for various third-party integrations. After creating a client application, the OAuth credentials are generated automatically, which are used for configuring the cloud collector. For more information, see Adding a client application in the Symantec documentation.

  • Obtain OAuth credentials for the client application that you created from your Symantec cloud console instance. Based on the OAuth Credentials value, the Authentication API generates a bearer token to be used in all the API calls. For more information, see Adding a client application in the Symantec documentation.

  • Create an event stream. The cloud collector uses Event Stream APIs to stream or export events in real time from Symantec Endpoint Security. For more information, see Event Streaming in the Symantec documentation.

  • Note the number of channels for the event-stream that you configured in the Symantec cloud console.

One channel is allocated for the event stream configuration by default. A channel is a dynamic scaling of events read by the public API. Based on the requirement of your organization related to the number of devices and event load, enter the number of channels that you want for the event stream configuration. For more information, see Event Streaming in the Symantec documentation.

  • Obtain GUID of the event-stream for which you want to configure the cloud collector. Each event stream has a GUID which is a unique identifier for the stream. Events are streamed in an events per second (EPS) rate. For more information, see Event Streaming in the Symantec documentation.
